The Family Advocate, who themselves have lived experience as a parent/caregiver of a child with special needs, has experience working with the Schools and/or Mental Health systems and services.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Able to share their personal experience of living with an intellectual or behavioral health challenged youth and their personal experience in working with the child serving systems and services Able to be a role model both in the community and to families involved in the program.
Initiates and improves communication among family leaders and advocates across the County.
Organizes and facilitates family member meetings, educational opportunities and/or events.
Ensures that the family voice is both represented and heard from at all levels of the Fayette County's child serving systems.
Trains youth, family members and professionals to work together more effectively.
Researches and presents new information about best practices for families across the child serving systems.
Educates current and new family members about the many informational, educational, support and referral resources available throughout Fayette County and Pennsylvania.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalency and have life experience which is used to engage the families.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
